Art of the Dog

Nathan Janes is a graduate of The Columbus College of Art & Design in Columbus, Ohio. Janes’ acrylic paintings of vibrant canine subjects could be best described as a form of pop art. Janes is becoming increasingly known worldwide and has been published in a number of national and international publications. In 2005, Janes was named “Emerging Artist and Trendsetter,” by Art Business News, the largest trade publication in the U.S. Recently, Janes has created a number of original designs, which have been used to help support various nonprofit organizations that promote animal welfare. Among these projects, Janes has designed the first official ribbon for animals, the “Animal Guardian Ribbon,” which is being distributed by Rational Animal to help support animal shelters nationwide.

“I want people to look at my art and get an emotional reaction- most people have had an animal that was close to them in their life. I hope that they see my art and remember those bonds that they have felt with some of the world’s other living wonders.” Janes also creates his art to help promote the humane treatment of animals. As part of his work Janes wants to educate about the pervasiveness of poor treatment towards family pets. He hopes that through his art people will come to see pets as living creatures deserving of the love and care of humans.

Janes strives to combat the popular perception that fine art can only be in certain styles or of certain subjects. Much like the work of Andy Warhol was not highly accepted by the art society until his later years, Janes wants his art to be seen as pleasing images which carry a deep message about humans interactions with the animals in their lives.
